Mitcham Pet Hospital Virtual Tour

Welcome to the Mitcham Pet Hospital virtual tour. Here, you can tour our hospital facilities without leaving your home, although for the best experience, you may want to come in and see our hospital personally. Please ring ahead of your planned visit so that we can arrange an appropriate time.

Welcome

Service. Quality. Integrity.

This is Mitcham Pet Hospital. You will find us on the corner of Whitehorse Road and Cook Road, Mitcham at the traffic lights. Entry is from Cook Road. The car park is partially shaded in summer with deciduous trees, and well lit up after dark.

Mitcham Vet EntranceA ramp to the front door provides easy access for our disabled clients. Floors throughout the hospital are non-slip and do not harbour infections. The entire building is climate controlled, so our clients and patients will be comfortable, regardless of the weather outside.

Reception

Cat Reception

Cat Reception

Reception is bright and airy with plenty of space. There is a separate waiting area for dogs and a separate area for cats and small animals. This helps to reduce the stress of a visit to the vet. Each waiting area has retail displays of pet foods, pet care products, and pet accessories. For everyone's safety and convenience, please have your pets appropriately restrained with dogs on leads, and cats and other small animals in cages.

Consulting Rooms

Cat Consulting Room

Cat Consulting Room

There are two spacious consulting rooms. Consulting room one is set up for cats with cat scales, posters, and models. Consulting room two is set up for dogs, also with posters and models. The examination table in the dog room folds up out of the way to provide more floor space for examining large dogs.

Pharmacy

Pharmacy

The Pharmacy is handy to both consulting rooms, and kept well stocked for treating most conditions. Drugs are stored according to health regulations and strict dispensing guidelines are adhered to.

Cat Hospital

Animals staying in hospital for any reason are kept as comfortable as possible. Cats and small animals are kept in a separate hospital room away from the dogs, to reduce stress. The dog hospital has cages to suit almost any size dog, with a run for the very large. All cages are equipped with animat, a hard rubber slatted mat to keep animals raised off the cage floor and out of their own urine. On top of the animat we use drybed, a special warm fleecy bedding that allows moisture to drain through away from the animals, keeping them drier. The cage floors are slightly angled so urine drains out of the cage into a gutter and removed. Special heating pads are used when necessary.

Preparation & Treatment Area

Treatment & Preparation Area

Our preparation and treatment area is one of the busiest areas behind the scenes. Here we prepare animals for surgery before moving them into the sterile surgery. Most minor procedures are done in this area and particularly dirty procedures such as abscesses, dental procedures, enemas and ear flushing. The special treatment table can also be used as a bath.

Sterile Surgery

Sterile Surgery

The sterile surgery is separate from the rest of the hospital. Animals anaesthetised and prepared for surgery are then moved into the sterile surgery. The hydraulic operating table is heated to body temperature to prevent hypothermia during surgery. Isoflurane gas anaesthesia is very safe and is used to reduce anaesthetic risk. Patients are constantly monitored as needed using an array of monitoring equipment to measure body temperature, heart rate, ECG, respiratory rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and end tidal carbon dioxide concentration. Instruments, drapes, etc. are autoclaved on the premises to ensure sterility.

Pathology

Pathology

Our well equipped laboratory allows us to do much of the pathology tests in-house. This minimises the time between taking samples and getting results, and is a great aid for diagnosing and treating acutely sick patients. Where more comprehensive testing is needed with more parameters checked, samples are sent to a veterinary laboratory and results can be obtained within a few hours.

Radiology

Radiology

Radiology is done in-house. Using the latest in digital radiography, radiographs (x-rays) are taken with the resulting images ready to be viewed within seconds. This is important to aid rapid diagnosis. Special protective equipment is used to protect hospital staff and patients from excessive radiation. Strict protocols are followed when using radiating equipment.

Grooming (Doggie Day Spa!)

GroomingPamper your pet at Mitcham Vet! Our professional groomer can groom all breeds and coiffure any style. The grooming area is separate to the main area of the hospital, and is climate controlled for optimal comfort.

GroomingOur professional groomer works on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. Book an appointment, drop your dog off and leave the rest to us! Your dog will look great and feel great. TLC is guaranteed.

Hydrobath

Hydrobath

Bathing your dog is not a chore any more! Our Hydrobath uses a temperature controlled pressurised jet of water to help you bathe your dog in luxury. The hydrobath area is separate from the main area of the hospital, and under cover so you can bathe your dog, rain or shine! If you don't want to do the bathing yourself, book your dog in for our groomer to do the bathing for you.

Isolation Room

Isolation RoomFortunately, this is the least used room in the hospital. It is available for isolating animals suspected of highly contagious diseases, such as parvovirus or feline panleukopaenia (enteritis). This helps prevent the spread of disease to other animals in the hospital and to hospital staff.

Occupational Health & Safety

Dog Lift

Occupational Health and Safety is a feature of Mitcham Pet Hospital. We have a very long history without workplace accidents. From EPA approved infectious and sharps waste management systems to correct lifting techniques, such as this scissor lift trolley for moving large patients, to the oxygen condensor that eliminates the need for storing oxygen bottles on the pemises, protecting our employees from potential injury is of paramount importance.
