Why pets need a dental checks?

Like with humans, your pet could suffer from dental issues which can affect its quality of life. Dental disease is a common occurrence for cats and dogs, where bacteria spreads throughout the mouth, causing pain and difficulty chewing.

Dental disease may occur in at least 75% of all pets three years old or more. The main forms of disease are periodontal (the structures supporting the teeth) or gingival (related to the gums).

Dental disease can also lead to other major problems such as liver and heart disease. It’s important that your pet’s dental health is taken into consideration, for their wellbeing and your peace of mind.

It’s a good idea to have a dental check-up for your pet once a year, or more frequently if it displays any of the following symptoms:

  • loose teeth

  • bad breath

  • lack of appetite

  • bleeding, inflamed or sore gums

  • discoloured teeth

  • swollen jaw

  • difficulty chewing
