DR HOOTAN SHAH
DR HOOTAN SHAHPrincipal Veterinary Consultant & Surgeon
Dr. Hootan Shah is a graduate of the University of Melbourne, where he earned his degree in Veterinary Medicine. With over 20 years of experience in veterinary consulting and surgery, both in Australia and internationally, he now practices exclusively at Mitcham Pet Hospital on a full-time basis. Dr. Shah has a particular interest in orthopedic surgery, specially in fracture repair and knee reconstruction. He continues to expand his knowledge in this field through advanced educational courses and regular training workshops.

In addition to his veterinary career, Dr. Shah is known as “Hootan the Singing Vet,”. An amateur classical/operatic singer who performs at charity concerts. He is also deeply committed to supporting wildlife welfare organizations and animal shelters.

Outside of his professional work, Dr. Shah enjoys spending time with his three adopted rescue dogs—Ziba, Asha, and Pinot Noir—his daughter Munnelly, and his wife Ara.

DR MEI CHAN
DR MEI CHANAssociate Veterinary Surgeon
Dr Mei Chan (BVSc) graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and has since built extensive experience practicing in a variety of settings, including Melbourne, Singapore, and Perth. Now based back in Melbourne, she is part of the dedicated team at Mitcham Pet Hospital. She brings detailed expertise across all areas of veterinary care, including surgery, medicine, emergency cases, exotic animals, general practice, and routine procedures.

Dr Mei is known for her warm, compassionate approach, and is dedicated to making every vet visit as stress-free and positive as possible for both you and your pets.

DR KLARE HO
DR KLARE HOAssociate Veterinary Surgeon
Born in Malaysia and growing up in Melbourne, Dr Klare has always been enthralled by the concept of the human-animal bond. She completed her undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Biomedical Science (BBiomedSc) at Monash University before studying the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at the University of Melbourne. Since then, Klare has undergone further training in surgery, medical oncology, anaesthesia and emergency medicine by completing a rotating internship at “Southpaws Specialist Surgery for Animals” where she has been exposed to challenging cases and learned to practice highest standard veterinary medicine.

Klare is dedicated to providing the best care for your family members and will be their healthcare advocate from the moment they arrive at Mitcham Pet Hospital.

Outside of her busy work schedule, Klare tries to find time for her hobbies such as baking and exploring Melbourne’s food culture.

DR DISHITA SAMEL
DR DISHITA SAMELAssociate Veterinary Surgeon
Dr. Dishita Samel (BSc, DVM) completed a Bachelor of Science before graduating with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Melbourne in 2024. She has a strong interest in both internal medicine and animal welfare, and is committed to evidence-based care that supports the physical and emotional wellbeing of each and every patient.

Her approach to veterinary medicine is grounded in building long-term, trusting relationships with clients and their pets. She believes that the best outcomes come from collaboration, clear communication, and compassion at every step.

Dr. Dishita first joined Mitcham Pet Hospital as a student during her clinical placement and immediately connected with the team’s supportive, community-focused environment — making her return as a veterinarian a natural next step.

Outside of the clinic, she enjoys staying active, reading, baking, and has recently taken up crocheting. She has lived in four different countries and speaks three languages, which she credits for shaping her empathetic and adaptable approach to her work. Dr. Dishita looks forward to meeting you and your pets soon, and is honoured to be part of their care.

Our Vet Nurses

LINDA
LINDAManager & Senior Veterinary Nurse
Linda is proud to serve as both the Practice Manager and Senior Veterinary Nurse at Mitcham Pet Hospital. She holds an Associate Degree in Veterinary Nursing and brings experience from her time working in general practice clinics. Linda has a special interest in rabbits and guinea pigs, having spent three years working at the Melbourne Rabbit Clinic.

At home, she cares for quite the menagerie of animals, including two dogs (Ruby and Bailey), a budgie (Frankie), three cheeky rabbits, seven guinea pigs, five chickens, and five sheep – all of whom keep her on her toes!

JACKY
JACKYFully Qualified Senior Nurse, Second In Charge Manager
Jacky holds a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. She loves working with all animals but definitely has a soft spot for German Shepherds.

Jacky lives with her husband, Issa, and their family of beloved pets, including one large Oscar fish, one Pleco fish, two lorikeets (Squizzy and Buddy), and of course, her number one goofball – Tank, her long coat German Shepherd Dog.

In her spare time, Jacky enjoys relaxing with a good movie and heading outdoors for adventures with Tank.

CLAUDIAVeterinary Nurse
Claudia brings international experience and a thoughtful approach to her role as a veterinary nurse at Mitcham Pet Hospital. Originally trained as a veterinarian in Chile, she earned her degree in Veterinary Medicine with a special interest in animal behaviour and welfare. Now practicing as a veterinary nurse in Australia, Claudia continues to find deep purpose in caring for patients and supporting their families –
treating each one as if they were her own.

Outside of work, Claudia enjoys exploring nature, discovering live music, and getting lost in a good fantasy novel.

STEPHANIEReceptionist
Stephanie joined the Mitcham Pet Hospital team after a career pivot that perfectly blended her passions: human connection and animals. After completing a degree in Professional Communications, she realised that a veterinary clinic – combining her love for animals with her natural strengths in communication, empathy, and client care, was where she could truly shine!

At home, her hands are full with her Irish Wolfhound, Dakota, her domestic tortoiseshell, Cirilla, and whichever foster animal is currently under her care.

CHARLIE BOYDr Hootan’s Stepson!
Charlie Boy has been with us since the start of 2024! Our official clinic cat, he is much-loved by everyone at the clinic and is undoubtedly the best cuddle buddy.

Affectionately known as Dr Hootan’s stepson, Charlie Boy has a big personality. His favourite treats are Greenies, he’s a huge fan of head pats, and he’ll happily try to steal your attention throughout the workday.
